Healing Hearts and Building Community: A Generous Gift Enhances Cardiac Rehab at Henry Mayo

At the heart of every thriving community are individuals who quietly and passionately give back, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care. This year, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center received a generous donation from longtime supporters and Valencia residents Fred and Andi Gruber.

The Grubers, who have supported Henry Mayo for many years, were inspired to fund a full equipment upgrade for the Cardiac Rehab Center; a space dedicated to helping patients regain their strength and quality of life following serious heart events such as heart attacks, valve surgeries, or heart failure. Their donation honors a deeply personal connection; Andi’s father passed away from a sudden heart attack at a young age, and this gift serves as a tribute to his memory and a commitment to helping others on their healing journey.

Thanks to the Grubers’ philanthropy, the hospital was able to replace outdated machines and acquire state-of-the-art equipment tailored to the unique needs of cardiac patients. This includes: six NuStep machines, four Matrix treadmills, a new upper-body ergometer (arm bike), a recumbent bike, and four seated steppers designed for patients with orthopedic limitations. These additions not only modernize the rehab experience but also enhance safety, accessibility, and effectiveness, ensuring every patient has the tools to rebuild both physical strength and emotional confidence.

“For individuals recovering from heart-related conditions, a safe and supportive rehabilitation program is critical,” said Marlee Lauffer, Foundation President. “This upgrade comes at a perfect time, as our program has seen a steady increase in patients over the past year. The Grubers’ gift allows us to meet this growing need with compassion and excellence.”

Every piece of equipment represents more than an exercise machine; it symbolizes a second chance, a hopeful step forward, and the enduring power of community. Fred and Andi’s donation is a shining example of how philanthropy strengthens our hospital’s mission and touches countless lives in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond.

Their generosity reminds us that when we give from the heart, we help others heal theirs.
