October Foundation President's Message

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and, across the world, medical and community organizations are collaborating to promote early screenings and more awareness of the significant advances being made in the fight against Breast Cancer. The Santa Clarita Valley community is at the forefront in promoting BCA Month with our great advocacy efforts and fundraising programs to support state-of-the-art technology and patient care assistance. We are so grateful to our generous community and local businesses who partner with us to raise both awareness and funds for our Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center. Started by philanthropy almost 23 years ago, local support allows the center to continue to meet the needs of its patients. Please join us at one—or more—BCA events!

You might notice a new updated logo for our breast center, and soon you'll see a refresh of its interior with new furnishings and an updated look. We know that our Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center historically has been a welcoming environment as women undertake their annual mammograms and screenings, and our dedicated staff plays a huge role in creating a safe and comforting center. While the vast majority of patients at our breast center receive the reassuring news that they are cancer free, we do discover breast cancer in some of our patients. The earlier we can detect it, the more options for treatment and positive outcomes occur. We are immensely grateful to local resident Adriana Clark for courageously sharing her story with all of us this year.

In addition to physical improvements, we have also installed new mammogram equipment with AI capability, which allows our radiologist the advantage of thousands of “extra set of eyes” on potential areas of concern as results are read. Our excellent physicians and clinicians affiliated with Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center are always seeking new technology, information and advances to serve our community.
