August Foundation President's Message

Fifty years ago, local civic, philanthropic and medical leaders celebrated the opening of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. A shining example of visionary guidance and generous philanthropy, the hospital was built on land donated by The Newhall Land and Farming Company with initial funds from the Newhall family, local business people, and community leaders. The goal in 1975 was to bring a full-service hospital dedicated to the health needs of the growing Santa Clarita Valley.

Since that time forward, philanthropy has continued to fuel Henry Mayo's dynamic growth. From major investments which brought us the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, the Kim and Steven Ullman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Roberta G. Veloz Cardiovascular Services, Wayne and Connie Spears Intensive Care Unit and the "coming soon" Richard and Marian Sandnes Pre and Post Acute Care Unit, to many other donations which support new equipment and a variety of key patient care programs, our hospital continues to rely on the generosity of our community and for that we are grateful.

Prior to five decades ago, residents of the Santa Clarita Valley could only dream of this land on McBean Parkway transforming into today's bustling campus with a six-story tower, a level 2 Trauma Center, stroke and cardiovascular services, and comprehensive cancer programs. The next 50 years will no doubt bring exciting new technology, procedures and service lines to Henry Mayo and our current community can be part of that dream of the future! Thank you for your support!
