When Florence “Flo” Frech walked into Henry Mayo’s Emergency Department one evening not long ago, she never imagined the hours ahead would be her final ones together with her family. And yet, amid unimaginable sorrow, Florence found something she didn’t expect: peace, compassion, and human connection—thanks to one extraordinary physician, Nam Pham, DO.

In the most fragile moments of life, when the right words feel impossible and time moves both too fast and unbearably slow, Dr. Pham met the Frech family with calm, grace, and empathy. “It was as if the patient was his own family member,” Florence said, reflecting on that night. “From the moment you put your arms around me, I knew we were all in good hands.”

Dr. Pham did more than provide care—he provided comfort. He spoke to the family gently and clearly, stayed with them as they processed each moment, and embraced them as if they were his own.
