    October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and, across the world, medical and community organizations are collaborating to promote early screenings and more awareness of the significant advances being made in the fight against Breast Cancer. The Santa Clarita Valley community is at the forefront in promoting BCA Month with our great advocacy efforts and fundraising programs to support state-of-the-art technology and patient care assistance. We are so grateful to our generous community and local businesses who partner with us to raise both awareness and funds for our Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center. Started by philanthropy almost 23 years ago, local support allows the center to continue to meet the needs of its patients. Please join us at one—or more—BCA events!

    Amanda M. Woodworth, MD, Director of Breast Health at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and Keck Medicine of USC, and Anjali Date, MD, Medical Director at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, were two of six co-authors of a paper recently published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology, the leading journal in the field of surgical oncology.

    Although the days are still warm and sunny, the nights are getting longer and cooler! As the winter months approach, it's a perfect time to reflect on our health and undertake preventative measures for our overall well-being. A good place to start is a flu vaccine and we encourage you to get one! For men, September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and early detection through screenings like a PSA test greatly improves outcomes. We are also approaching Breast Cancer Awareness Month, internationally recognized in October. Scheduling an annual mammogram is an important step.
