Spiritual Care
Our mission is to provide empathic care so patients, their loved ones and staff may experience peace and hope.
Whole Person Care
Integration of spiritual care into healthcare has long been considered a best practice for the promotion of optimal healing. As such, we care for the whole person—body, mind and spirit.
Henry Mayo’s Spiritual Care Services consist of interfaith chaplains and spiritual care volunteers who provide spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff. In addition to offering a variety of spiritual services, chaplains…
- Provide holistic spiritual care to persons of all religious faiths or those without religious affiliation.
- Assist patients and families in relieving anxieties associated with illness, treatment, and the recovery process.
- Facilitate talking about personal beliefs and values to guide in decision-making.
- Support bereaved families with the mortuary process. Please ask for an After a Loss mortuary brochure.

How to See a Chaplain
Chaplains make daily rounds and respond to requests for support during regular office hours. There is no cost to see a chaplain.
To request a chaplain, speak with your nurse or any staff member and request a chaplain. You may also call 661.200.1125.

Connecting Patients with Local Clergy
To support patients and their families with religious-specific needs, chaplains can contact local clergy (priest, pastor, rabbi, elder, imam, monk, etc.). Clergy will come at bedside for prayer, meditation, communion, confession, anointing, end-of-life rites, etc.
Grief Support Group
In a safe and respectful environment, adults gather to better understand and cope with their grief after the loss of a loved one. Participants support one another through empathetic presence and active listening while they process their own personal loss, thoughts and emotions.
Meetings are held at the Henry Mayo Education Center (across the street from the hospital). Please call 661.200.1125 if you would like to register or would like more information. Click here to see upcoming meeting dates.
Honoring Veterans
We take pride in honoring patients who have served in the US Armed Forces. At Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Chaplains officiate a Veteran Flag Ceremony at bedside to express our gratitude to these brave veterans.
No One Dies Alone (NODA) Program
NODA is an internationally recognized volunteer program that supports actively dying patients. NODA is available when family is unable to come or remain at bedside, or if a patient has no family.
NODA volunteers provide compassionate presence at bedside, and may simply be present, play music, talk, read, meditate, etc. NODA support is subject to availability of NODA volunteers.

Interfaith Chapel
The interfaith chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital. As a sacred and quiet space, it is always open to patients, families and staff. Within the interfaith chapel, you will find sacred writings, publications, prayer rugs, prayer candles, rosaries, and a prayer request box available for your use.
