The Importance of Training for Power as We Age.
“Ahead of you sits the cross walk for a four-lane intersection; the light to cross turns on beckoning you forward. You know you have enough functional strength to walk across the street, but can you get across before the timer runs out? This is where training for power becomes relative. Strength training may give you the ability to cross the intersection, yet it is power that can get you across all four lanes of traffic before the light changes.
The loss of neuromuscular function for untrained individuals begins in earnest at about 40 years old and drops more and more rapidly with each passing decade. Both strength training and power training helps prevent this loss. Power training can also help prevent falls by helping you react swiftly if you start to trip or lose your balance. In this presentation we will go over all the reasons to keep training for power as we age and practical ways in which to do so.”
