Pneumonia Prevention, Treatment and Recovery:

  • Begins April 7, 2020

  • 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

  • Pneumonia is the leading cause of hospitalization in children and adults. This class covers risk factors, causes, signs and symptoms of pneumonia, and how it is diagnosed. Pneumonia treatment, recovery and prevention are also discussed.

Plant Based Nutrition:

  • Begins April 7, 2020
  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Are you curious about research supporting a plant-based diet? Would you like to know how plant-based eating helps reduce risk for cancer, heart disease and other diseases? Have you wondered about the environmental impact of eating animal foods? Learn how to meet your nutritional needs by eating a variety of nutrient-dense foods from the plant world. Whole-food, plant-based recipes and resources will be explored.

Neck and Back Education:

  • Do you have sciatica or pain in your neck or lower back? This class offers valuable information on how to take better care of your spine and, if you have pain, how to manage it so you can get back to the life you enjoy.

Type-Onederful Support Group:

  • Begins April 8, 2020
  • 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Meet others living with Type 1 diabetes who understand your struggles and frustrations with this disease. Family, caregivers and supporters of Type 1 diabetics are also welcome to join. Each session, we will cover new topics, relate to personal experiences and learn about ways you can tackle Type 1 diabetes
    head-on.

COPD Education:

  • Begins April 10, 2020

  • 11:00 a.m.

  • JUST HOW SERIOUS IS COPD?
    HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR BODY?
    If you have been diagnosed with COPD, you can still be healthy. In other words, by understanding your disease, and taking charge of it on a daily basis, you can improve your quality of life with COPD. Henry Mayo Hospital has a 3 Part Educational Program that provides information and tools to help you understand COPD, manage treatment and improve your well-being.

Practicing Mindfulness:

  • Begins April 13, 2020

  • 4:00 p.m.

  • Mindfulness is the awareness and acceptance of your thoughts, feelings, bodily
    sensations, and environment in the present moment. Mindfulness can promote overall
    health and well-being, and can:
    • Help reduce stress, anxiety and depression
    • Improve your sleep
    • Help manage chronic pain and disease
    • Improve your eating habits
    • Sharpen your focus and help you increase your productivity
    • Raise your self-esteem and help improve your relationships
    • Help you integrate breath and body movement
    Through a guided mindfulness meditation practice and brief discussion, we will explore
    various mindfulness practices that can be applied to your day-to-day life.

Heart Healthy Nutrition:

  • Begins April 15, 2020
  • 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • In this class we will discuss the American Heart Association’s dietary guidelines. Class topics include foods we should have in our diet as well as foods that should be reduced, the DASH diet, sodium guidelines, tips for eating out, putting together a healthy plate, understanding food labels and more.

Healing Circle:

  • Begins April 16, 2020
  • 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Now more than ever, staying connected and coming together to support each other, our community and our world is vital. The Healing Circle, guides participants through special meditations to awaken healing for ourselves, those close to us and the world. Please join us in the Healing Circle live online via Zoom to send healing to everyone affected by the difficult circumstances we all are facing. Healing Circle will be offered every Thursday night at 5:30pm starting April 16th for four weeks.

Heart Failure - Knowing Your Disease:

  • Begins April 22, 2020
  • 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Heart failure affects about six million Americans and is the No. 1 cause of hospital-izations in people over 65 years old. In this class, you will learn about the disease and risk factors, how heart disease affects the body, how it’s diagnosed and treated, what you can do to better manage the disease, and when to seek treatment

HMFC Virtual Fitness Class:

  • Begins April 22, 2020
  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Join our Fitness Center staff for a virtual workout every Wednesday at 3PM. Our “Staying Fit” at-home exercise class is a full-body workout that can be done with minimal to no equipment. Our degreed and certified fitness professionals are here to get you moving!
