Practicing Mindfulness:

  • June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
  • 4:00 p.m.
  • Mindfulness is the awareness and acceptance of your thoughts, feelings, bodily
    sensations, and environment in the present moment. Mindfulness can promote overall
    health and well-being, and can:
    • Help reduce stress, anxiety and depression
    • Improve your sleep
    • Help manage chronic pain and disease
    • Improve your eating habits
    • Sharpen your focus and help you increase your productivity
    • Raise your self-esteem and help improve your relationships
    • Help you integrate breath and body movement
    Through a guided mindfulness meditation practice and brief discussion, we will explore
    various mindfulness practices that can be applied to your day-to-day life.

Pneumonia Prevention, Treatment and Recovery:

  • Pneumonia is the leading cause of hospitalization in children and adults. This class covers risk factors, causes, signs and symptoms of pneumonia, and how it is diagnosed. Pneumonia treatment, recovery and prevention are also discussed.

Healthy Weight Workshop Part 1:

  • This class provides practical guidance for people seeking to lose weight and maintain
    weight loss. We will discuss the latest research, healthy eating guidelines, the role
    of physical activity, mindful eating techniques, and realistic goal setting to help you achieve
    your weight goal.

HMFC Virtual Fitness Class:

  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Join our Fitness Center staff for a virtual workout every Wednesday at 3PM. Our “Staying Fit” at-home exercise class is a full-body workout that can be done with minimal to no equipment. Our degreed and certified fitness professionals are here to get you moving! Healing Circle:

  • Now more than ever, staying connected and coming together to support each other, our community and our world is vital. The Healing Circle, guides participants through special meditations to awaken healing for ourselves, those close to us and the world. Please join us in the Healing Circle live online via Zoom to send healing to everyone affected by the difficult circumstances we all are facing. Healing Circle will be offered every Thursday night at 5:00 p.m.

Heart Failure: Knowing You Disease and Learning How to Manage It:

  • Heart failure affects about 6 million Americans is the No. 1 cause of hospitalization in people over 65 years old. Learn about the disease and risk factors, how heart disease affects the body, how it’s diagnosed and treated, what you can do to better manage the disease, and when to seek treatment.

Nutrition and Inflammation:

  • June 10, 2020
  • 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Many foods in the typical Western diet set the stage for inflammation, worsen aches and pains, and increase long-term risk of life-threatening diseases. In this class we will cover topics such as the dietary causes of inflammation, correcting an out-of-balance diet, avoiding inflammation triggers, and strategies to help you identify inflammation-causing foods.

Type One-derful Support Group:

  • June 10, 2020
  • 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Meet others living with Type 1 diabetes who understand your struggles and frustrations with this disease. Family, caregivers and supporters of Type 1 diabetics are also welcome to join. Each session, we will cover new topics, relate to personal experiences and learn about ways you can tackle Type 1 diabetes
    head-on.

COPD Education:

  • JUST HOW SERIOUS IS COPD?
    HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR BODY?
    If you have been diagnosed with COPD, you can still be healthy. In other words, by understanding your disease, and taking charge of it on a daily basis, you can improve your quality of life with COPD. Henry Mayo Hospital has a 3 Part Educational Program that provides information and tools to help you understand COPD, manage treatment and improve your well-being.

  • This class will help those who have suffered a heart attack, or who suffer from angina, better understand the disease process and how to move forward to live a healthy, active life. A heart attack is a life-changing event. Learn about heart attack risk factors, how a heart attack is diagnosed and treated, and what you can do to prevent future heart attacks.

Medicare Minute:

  • This seminar series offers a rare opportunity to empower all Medicare recipients who may have questions about their rights, key deadlines, governmental process, state and federal resources and a basic understanding of the Medicare landscape. Special focus now on "Medicare Enrollment and Changes During the Pandemic".

    2. What's the best way to apply for Part B with closed government offices across the city?

Family, Food and Fitness - 3 week program

  • June 23, 23, 30, July, 2, 7, 9 2020
  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • To get the most out of this program, please plan on joining all 6 sessions.
    • 3 Weeks, Two Zoom Meetings a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-4pm
    • 30 minutes of group movement/exercise and 30 minutes of nutrition education
    • Goal setting and activities each week
    • Taught by Community Education and Fitness Center staff
    • CLASS 1, Tuesday 6/23- Introductions and My Plate
    Join us as we kick off our 3 week program for families focused on creating healthy family lifestyle habits. We’ll look at using the plate method to guide food choices and balance.
    • CLASS 2, Thursday 6/25- Food Groups
    Now that we know about the plate method, learn the role each food group plays in our health and why and how to choose foods from each group to enjoy every day.
    • CLASS 3, Tuesday 6/30 – Exercise and Water
    Let’s learn to move more as a family! We’ll discuss the benefits of exercise, why water should be your families go-to thirst quencher, and have fun creating your own signature flavored water.
    • CLASS 4, Thursday 7/2- Sleep and Screen time
    Learn the benefits of finding the balance between adequate, restorative sleep and limiting screen time.
    • CLASS 5, Tuesday 7/7- Meals and Mealtime
    Bring your best meal ideas as we breakdown meal planning, setting up the mealtime environment and have fun with a simple food demo.
    • CLASS 6, Thursday 7/9- Snacks and Label Reading
    Pull something out of your cupboard and join us as we learn how to use the nutrition facts label to help us make healthy choices. We’ll present a fun and festive summer treat to enjoy and celebrate the completion of the program.
