Minimally Invasive Care for Chest and Lung Diseases
Henry Mayo is one of just a few hospitals in California offering a comprehensive interventional pulmonology program that uses minimally invasive
techniques to treat and diagnose lung nodules and other lung-related conditions. Our team of healthcare professionals collaborates with referring physicians every step of the way.
Our goal is to make patients feel comfortable and confident about their interventional procedure. All interventional pulmonary procedures are performed at Henry Mayo's Outpatient Surgery Center or on the main campus of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, California.

Led by our board-certified interventional pulmonologist in providing all interventional procedures, our team of trained respiratory therapists and nurses provide professional expertise and compassion to help assure the best possible patient outcomes. We use state-of-the-art technology and the newest minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat lung cancer, airway disorders and pleural diseases while minimizing the number of procedures and tests patients undergo.
Our team performs endobronchial ultrasound and navigational bronchoscopy to biopsy, stage and diagnose the lymph nodes and lung nodules in a single procedure, reducing the risk of lung collapse, and frequently done on an outpatient basis.
Our comprehensive interventional pulmonology services include:
• Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) is a minimally invasive but highly effective procedure used to diagnose lung cancer, infections, and other diseases causing enlarged lymph nodes in the chest. EBUS allows physicians to perform a technique known as transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) to obtain tissue or fluid samples from the lungs and surrounding lymph nodes without conventional surgery. The samples can be used for diagnosing and staging lung cancer, detecting infections, and identifying inflammatory diseases that affect the lungs, such as sarcoidosis or other cancers like lymphoma.• Electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB)
• Ultrasound-guided biopsy
• Flexible and rigid bronchoscopy
• Tumor Debulking
- YAG laser
- Argon Plasma Electrocautery
• Airway stenting
• Balloon dilatation
• Bronchial valve deployment
• Percutaneous Tracheostomy
• Rigid bronchoscopy
• Fiducial placement
• Photodynamic therapy
• Transtracheal oxygen catheter
• Foreign body removal
• Bronchial Thermoplasty
Bronchial Thermoplasty (BT) is an outpatient procedure for people with severe asthma, proven to reduce asthma attacks for at least five years. Fewer asthma attacks means less need for the associated oral steroid treatment—and its side effects. Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is one of the only hospitals in Southern California to offer Bronchial Thermoplasty. To learn more, click here. Or call 661-200-1340.
