When Sarah Hegoas and Steven King went to the hospital for their baby’s birth, they weren’t thinking that their baby might be Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s first birth for 2011.
“We thought there would have been another birth since they were so busy here,” said mother, Sarah Hegoas.
Sophia Aline King, a healthy baby girl weighing 6 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches in length, was delivered by David Nguyen, MD at 3:31 a.m. on January 1. Dr. Nguyen also delivered Henry Mayo’s last baby of 2010, Emmerson Louise Shean, on December 31 at 7:35 p.m.
Happy father, Steven King, said, “Wow, I’m a parent, I’m a dad.”
Also present for the delivery was Sarah’s mother, Sharon Hegoas. “I’m so happy. I have a princess and now I have a little princess.”
Wrapped in a fluffy, pink blanket, Sophia slept in her mother’s arms, oblivious to the excitement that surrounded her birth. She is the first child for the Pasadena couple, who met at Princess Cruises in Santa Clarita, where they both work.
To help celebrate the special status of being the first baby of the New Year, Estelle Hoffman, president of Henry Mayo’s Auxiliary, presented the family with a commemorative birth announcement and a $50 gift certificate for the hospital’s Gift Shop.
Henry Mayo’s Auxiliary volunteers operate Henry Mayo’s Gift Shop, conduct tours of the hospital, and provide a variety of supportive services in the maternity and newborn areas, including special tours for parents and children and gifts for new moms. A monthly luncheon keeps members up-to-date on a variety of health issues.
