Med Surg > What is Telemetry?

Telemetry is the science used to measure and obtain information from one location and transmit it to another. Telemetry is used in communications technology. In fact, it's how NASA communicates with space stations.

In hospitals, telemetry refers to the science of monitoring a patient's heart function. In Henry Mayo's telemetry units, state-of-the-art machines gather and transmit this information 24-hours a day, nonstop, to a bank of computer monitors. Specially trained technicians observe these monitors around the clock.

Our Telemetry Units are conveniently located on the first floor of the main hospital building.
