A telemetry technician or nurse sits at a bank of computer screens that display up-to-the-second information about each patient's cardiac function. A coding system, based on colors displayed on the screen and sound alarms, alerts the technician to any significant change in a patient's heart rate, rhythm, and electrocardiogram (EKG).
Our monitors are able to record hours of information about a patient's cardiac function and provide paper print-outs. Physicians interpret these print-outs to evaluate patients and recommend proper treatment.
Nurse Education
Our telemetry nurses have taken specific cardiac and respiratory courses, beyond their degree requirements, that prepare them to work in these units. Our telemetry nurses are also certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). This education enables them to respond swiftly and professionally to a patient's urgent medical needs, and, if necessary, administer life-saving treatments.
