Close to 300 employees were recognized Dec. 2 during the 2004 Employee Service Awards Luncheon held at the Valencia Hyatt and honoring those with 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.

The Service Awards Recognition Luncheon was hosted by the Human Resources Department and also honored with special recognition were those employees with 21 or more years of service.

“The Hospital is proud to honor the many employees who have demonstrated, by length of service, that they are concerned and caring professionals whose work truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients,” said Mark Puleo, Chief Human Resources Officer. “Congratulations on this important achievement.”

Amongst the awardees were several members of Henry Mayo’s executive team including Roger Seaver, President/CEO; Diane Lynch, Chief Nursing Officer; and Bob Hudson, Chief Financial Officer – all who have served three years. 

Seaver along with John Schleif, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Vinod Assomull, M.D., Chairman of the Hospital Board of Directorsalso addressed the attendees and thanked the employees for their dedication.

“What makes this hospital so great is seeing all of you here today and recognizing your contributions,” said Seaver.

One of the nurses awarded for the 25 years at Henry Mayo was Ulla Lindsey who has spent all but one year of her 25-year nursing career at Henry Mayo and says she is proud to be associated with the hospital she calls her second home.

“Being at Henry Mayo is more than a job,” said Lindsey, who has worked in Henry Mayo’s Emergency Department since 1979.  “It’s been my life.”

During her tenure she’s witnessed some life-changing circumstances. “I met my husband and had my three kids there,” Lindsey said. “It’s practically my second home.”

Lindsey was one of nearly 300 Henry Mayo employees that were recognized for their devotion to Valencia’s community hospital and only trauma center.

“It was very nice to be recognized,” said Lindsey showing off her gold trimmed glass clock engraved with her name on it. “It’s nice to feel appreciated.”

Receiving the highest honor at Thursday’s celebration was Daniele Washburn, application analyst, who has worked at the hospital for 35 years.

“This is an experience that I would not have to have missed for anything in the world,” Washburn said. “I’ve seen the hospital grow and I’m proud to see how successful we’ve become.”

Others milestone awardees included Ray Spaid, R.N. 30 years.
Celebrating 25 years of service were: Glenn Afuso, Radiology Tech; Shirley Augustine, L.V.N. Deborah Baker, Admitting Coordinator; Ralph George, R.N.; Gloria Haddad, R.N. and Vivian Rebel, R.N. and Director of Emergency and Trauma Services.

And honored for 20 years of service were: Mary Bingham, Clinical Lab Scientist; Virginia Rawson, R.N.; and Claudia Sullivan, R.N.
