Our Service Excellence Program is set aside to recognize those who consistently go above and beyond their call of duty. Our program was initiated in 2003 and you know when the program is working as it should when, each quarter, those who are recognized are the ones who are consistently being nominated over and over again, by different people – all who share their different examples and experiences about how these people have made a positive impact on the well being of our patients and their families.
This was quite the fact during our August 6 Service Excellence Awards, where most of those who had been recognized had been nominated on many previous occasions.
Lakhbinder Dhanda, MD, Internal Medicine
Physician Award
Dr. Dhanda was recognized for his commitment to keeping the needs of his patients a priority at all times, Dr. Dhanda is often top-of-mind when Henry Mayo staff seek attention for their own medical needs. He personally takes action to solve issues related to patient care—even if it means getting on the phone with an insurance company. Dr. Dhanda is also actively involved with process improvement projects at Henry Mayo. He not only suggests ways to improve a process, he also helps implement action plans, and always does so with the patient and hospital in mind.
Sylvia Bowlin, Ward Clerk
Nursing Award
Sylvia demonstrates care and concern for the safety and well being of patients and her fellow colleagues at all times. She is frequently heard motivating and cheering on co-workers, and her compassion for patients is evident in everything she does. She is very proactive and quickly offers assistance whenever a helping hand is needed. A former nurse in the Phillipines, Sylvia uses her knowledge to keep the department running smoothly. Sylvia’s “can do” attitude, competence, and willingness to go the extra mile energize her team. She is a great asset and an inspiration to all!
Mark Beatty, Network group Analyst
Ancillary Award
Mark’s dedication to detail and professional attitude has earned him the respect of architects, contractors and engineers who work with Henry Mayo, as well as hospital staff and physicians. Mark sets high standards for himself and places a strong priority on quality and timeliness. During the many projects and department relocations that have occurred this year, Mark has applied his knowledge and experience to head-off problems and ensure future needs are met. Mark is very much a team player and works with his co-workers to meet department goals and ensure expectations are exceeded.
Thomas Llewellyn, Shuttle Driver
Volunteer Award
Tom knew when he retired that he wanted something to do that would help others and make people smile. He gets plenty of opportunities volunteering at Henry Mayo, and his great big smile and cheerful attitude frequently brighten the day for a patient, hospital staff or physician. As a volunteer shuttle driver, Tom often extends his hours beyond the scheduled time when he knows a patient or staff member will need a ride—and on occasion has driven throughout the parking areas to assist someone with locating their vehicle. Tom is a highly valued, appreciated volunteer.
