Who Needs Intensive Care?
Heart attacks and strokes account for a large number of patients requiring intensive care at our hospital. Also, victims of auto or other accidents, or patients with head injuries, neurological problems, or even serious infections may require intensive care. In all cases, the patient's admitting physician determines what level of care he or she requires. Factors that help determine the doctor's decision are the acuity of a patient's condition, the hours of nursing care needed, and the type of treatments required.
