From the tees to the tent, the 2004 Frontier Toyota Henry Mayo Drive Safe Golf Classic proved to be a very successful fundraising event. The golfers and volunteers enjoyed a wonderful time at the Valencia Country Club while raising $300,000 gross for the hospital's Emergency Department expansion project.

180 golfers in teams of five took to the course and made their way around 18 holes filled with many activities. Players could win a car, truck, or SUV from Frontier Toyota for scoring a hole in one. A variety of other golf related prizes were offered to those who won Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Beat the Pro & Accuracy contests.

"It's just the best charity golf tournament around," said Joe Caso, owner of Frontier Toyota and avid golfer. "I'm proud to be Title Sponsor of the Golf Classic including my association with our community hospital. I know how important the new Emergency Department will be to the Santa Clarita Valley."

Food to tempt every palate was also offered to those who attended. Delicious breakfast burritos were prepared by RSVP Catering in the morning and barbecued tri tip sandwiches were offered by the Castaic Lions Club for the players and volunteers. There were also goodies to be had from Stonefire Grill, Cousin's Burgers, Salt Creek Grille, Cabo Cabana, BJ's Restauruant & Brewhouse, Rio Lobo & Newhall Coffee.

This year's field of golfers also included several physicians. Regulars like Dr. Douglas Gadowski were joined by Dr. Shaik Saheb, Dr. Rajinder Kaushal, Dr. Anthony Panasci, Dr. Thomas Smith, Dr. Peter Nicolazzo, Dr. Rob Zappacosta, Dr. Michael Quon, and returning golfers Dr. Mark Liker & Dr. David Mysko.

"I played in this tournament many years ago, but haven't played in a while so it was nice to get back into it," Mysko said. Dr. Liker said he joined the tournament for the first time last year and had such a great time that he decided to come back this year.

Western Airparts' team was the First Place-Gross winners and included Todd Hall, Karl McCarthy, Marshall Paterson, Rob Ramsgate & Cyle Wehba. The Good Neighbor Pharmacy team consisting of Mike Quick, Larry Atlas, Peter Bryant, Dave Dyck & Joe Millin took home the First Place-Net trophies.

After the tournament ended, players were joined by their guests under a tent located on the driving range and treated to a wonderful dinner. The guests also participated in a live and silent auction where plenty of great deals were to be had, including trips, jewelry, autographed memorabilia and a full family membership for a year at the Valencia Country Club.

"A tournament doesn't happen without a lot of great sponsors," said Eddie Cole, co-chair of the event, as he opened the evening presentation; "A special thank you to all of you who have given so generously."
