Cancer Treatment
Hospital Medical Surgical (Med/Surg) Unit with Oncology Focus
The fourth major component is the hospital's Med Surg 4 unit. Though the unit is classified as a Med Surg Unit, it has an oncology focus. Medical-Surgical Unit Four is the location where most cancer patients are cared for at Henry Mayo. While not all cancer patients go to this location, and not all patients on MS4 are cancer patients, it is the site where the nursing staff has special training, expertise and experience caring for special needs of cancer patients, such as chemotherapy, oncologic emergencies, pain control and symptoms specific to cancer patients. Henry Mayo's Infusion Center is also located on MS4 and is where ambulatory oncology patients receive outpatient chemotherapy and blood transfusions.
Infusion Center
Outpatient Infusion Center has been moved to the MS4, our medical Surgical Unit which has an oncology focus. This unit has specially certified nurses trained to administer and care for patients receiving chemotherapy and blood transfusions. The infusion center also treats other non-cancer related patients including osteoporosis, therapeutic phlebotomies, enzyme therapies, IV hydration, IV antibiotics, and IV iron for anemia.
