Tender Care Classes

Prepared Childbirth Education
The birth of a baby is a remarkable, life-changing event. It's critical that parents-to-be have knowledge and information to ensure a memorable birthing experience. This series of six classes is a culmination of modern childbirth philosophies and covers the birthing experience, choice in childbirth, pain management, relaxation and breathing techniques to help ensure a healthy, wonderful birthing experience.

Baby Care Basics
Our comprehensive three-part program helps new parents increase their confidence and feel more comfortable about handling their newborn. In part 1, parents learn about baby care basics, such as bathing, diapering, burping and more. We also discuss newborn issues and how to interview prospective pediatricians. In part 2, we look at typical childhood illnesses during the first few years of life and steps parents can take to help care for their child. In part 3, parents and other caregivers learn infant CPR and how to care for a child who is choking. Upon completion, participants receive a Baby Care Basics Certificate and a Family and Friends CPR Certificate.

Infant CPR
Grandparents, parents and other caregivers will learn how to recognize breathing and cardiac emergencies, and how to respond with confidence. This class can be taken separately, or as a part of the Baby Care Basics series.

Breastfeeding Workshop
This class provides mothers-to-be with everything they need to know about breastfeeding. Topics include general information on breastfeeding basics, including techniques and positioning, and problem-solving strategies to help new mothers have a positive breastfeeding experience.

MomTalk (postpartum support group, birth -- 6 months)
Many new moms want support and camaraderie with other moms following the birth of a baby. For two-and-a-half hours each week, moms come together to make new friends and avoid the isolation that often can accompany new motherhood. They share personal experiences, seek advice, and more. This class is currently offered one morning a week and may be expanded on an as needed basis.

Stroll & Roll (postpartum walking group, birth -- 6 months)
This fun class gets new moms and their babies outdoors. In addition to helping new moms get back in shape, Stroll & Roll helps moms develop new friendships. Twice a week moms meet at a variety of Valencia parks and walk with their babies in strollers along the area's beautiful paseo system. Participants are invited to come as many times as they like each month.
