Balance Program
Balance is something most of us take for granted, until symptoms such as dizziness, unsteadiness, and falling over strike. The possible culprit? A balance disorder. Inner ear abnormalities are the primary cause for most balance disorders, followed by central nervous system dysfunction, cardiovascular problems, or side effects from medications and/or a period of inactivity or bed rest that results in a loss of strength. Whatever a person’s age, loss of balance should be investigated immediately as the impact can be significant.
Patients at Henry Mayo’s balance program, which operates out of the hospital’s outpatient therapy building, are referred by a primary physician. Henry Mayo’s specially trained therapists use exercise balls, air bladder discs, balance beams, mat exercises, SportKat equipment to restore the muscle strength so imperative for balance. |
