Helping Patients Regain Independence

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital?s Outpatient Therapy Services offer a wide-range of personalized programs to help patients regain their independence and optimal quality of life following an injury or illness.

A fully integrated team approach, which encompasses physical, occupational and speech therapies in one convenient location, helps patients achieve their full potential. We offer a friendly, relaxed environment, and treatments are only rendered by qualified licensed professionals. Patients work together with therapy staff to develop goals, monitor progress and meet the challenges of resuming daily activities. Our programs emphasize outcome based treatment plans, interdisciplinary care conferencing, hands-on family involvement and problem-focused goals.

Physical Therapy
Physical therapy helps patients regain strength and mobility after an injury or illness. Many people with neurological or orthopedic impairments may exhibit difficulties returning to work, sports activities, or just the routine of life. Our therapists provide testing and treatment for all types of motor dysfunction. We also fabricate custom orthotics and splints, and provide education for the prevention and management of injuries.

For the patient with back pain, we focus on manual therapy as well as modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Exercise is performed in our state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym equipped with the latest technology.

Occupational Therapy
For patients who require further rehabilitation in orthopedics, sports, geriatric and hand therapies, our 3,600 square foot facility is designed with you in mind. This sunny and spacious area offers generous state-of-the-art equipment and all treatment modalities to increase wellness and facilitate recovery from injury or surgery. We're located in the Ambulatory Care Center on the east side of the Nursing Pavilion. Our hours are from 8:00AM to 7:00PM.
Occupational therapy involves the rehabilitation of patients who have difficulty performing the activities of daily living. This could be anything from buttoning a shirt to returning to full function at work. Our experts provide a solid treatment regimen designed to maximize patient function.

Our multi-disciplinary approach to outpatient rehabilitation services includes treatment for a wide array of conditions, including specialties in:

  • Neurologic disorders
  • Orthopedic conditions

Speech Therapy
Many people with neurological impairments brought on by aging, Parkinson?s disease or stroke may exhibit difficulty in the areas of speaking, communication and swallowing. Our speech therapists conduct thorough diagnostic evaluations and develop appropriate treatment plans for a full range of language and cognitive linguistic disorders.

For the patient with swallowing difficulties, our therapists perform comprehensive swallowing assessments, including chairside or video-flouroscopic studies, to help determine the level of dysfunction. A directed treatment regimen can be established to maximize the ability of the patient.

Adult Neuro Rehabilitation
Our neuro rehabilitation team are trained and certified in Neuro Developmental Training and work with primary care and other specialty physicians to manage patients with neurological injuries or illnesses, including stroke, brain or spinal cord injuries, Parkinson?s, Multiple Sclerosis, and peripheral neuropathy.

Vestibular rehabilitation is a treatment that involves specific exercises designed to decrease the symptoms of dizziness, nausea and spinning caused by injury or disease. This treatment is also helpful in improving balance and increasing a person?s functional activity level and quality of life.

We also offer balance evaluation and training designed especially for older adults with balance problems, prosthetic training, adaptive equipment assessments and recommendations, and education and training for patients, families and caregivers.
